 Question about the rules
I want to continue my failed attempt of last year. Progress can be seen here. I eventually released a couple of alpha's on Quake3world but the results were disappointing and I abandoned the project.

Recently I've started to take another look at it and decided that the entire layout has to be redone from scratch. But still using the same concept (location, theme, textures, pieces of layout, etc). I've been drawing some new layout ideas. Nothing has been build yet. There are two rules regarding entries:

Quote:
Map must be previously unreleased and a new design started at the beginning of this competition; please no map remakes or edits

Q: Can I start planning my map out on paper before the competition starts?
A: Yes, you can start planning it out at anytime. However, you cannot start mapping in Radiant until the competition officially starts in early June. Announcing the competition early allows people to think about potential designs and/or themes.

Looking at my situation, does it still count as a new design and I'm I allowed to enter the competition with it?

Unfortunately the map has to be a completely new map, so it can't have been worked on previously or be a remake of an already existing map.

I suppose if you completely redid the entire thing and started from a blank slate in Radiant then it might work; it that what you meant?

Yes, take what I learned from the previous attempt and start over. Textures and theme will be the same. But every single brush will be new. Some parts of the previous alpha might be redone but overall it's all new.

Yeah, I guess this is ok, however to be honest I'd much rather see an entirely new design used rather than something previously worked on and abandoned. Then you get to start fresh and don't have baggage from previous attempts possibily haunting the project.

Nothing wrong with being honest. I wish more people were. Having said that, if you have second thoughts, it's no problem. I'll simply won't enter. Starting something fresh is easier but I hate failure and I will continue my previous attempt (either in this contest or publicly).

I guess you can go ahead with it, but the design in radiant must be started over from a blank slate. That's ok with you?
