Yeah, sorry about that. I did mean to record demos..
I do have a few, but my play is so bad :)

Anyway, you're right about the time factor. I tried to spend as much
time as possible checking each map and then playing them all vs bots
and where possible vs real players. So it is pretty time consuming.

akm - yeah, the demos would be an awfully nice touch, but I feel like that is a lot more work and I'm not quite sure about how much benefit it imparts.

StormShadow (and others) - Originally I only viewed the weekly screenshot posting as an anticheat measure. It was a weak anticheat at that, but making it more powerful seemed obtrusive and counter-productive. However, I soon realized that it had a very powerful side effect, which was that it forced each player to create a screenshot timeline of their work. This makes the competition, and the journey that the maps have taken, a lot more obvious and *attractive* to random visitors and to the sponsors. For me and the sponsors (and I hope others as well) this is hugely valuable. To quantify: at the end of the previous competition, about 25000 views had occurred on mapping forum posts. At the end of this competition we're over 31000, about 25% more.

I guess the moral of my story is that the weekly screenshots are serving a much larger purpose. I'm fine with finding another anticheat measure to show that everyone is starting fresh, but at the same time there also needs to be an appropriate rule to force people to show progress.

Interesting.. This does put the weekly udpate into perspective.

If you are going to use the update screenshots as a promotional tool, maybe next time you could find a way to encourage people to post something a little more slick and polished (IE, a good screenie). It might go farther in terms of generating traffic than an editor shot. Just a thought :)

Actually everyone was allowed to use premade stuff ...
esp coz the competition was announced some weeks before it started,
and i remember, that ppl were pleased to start asap at that time!

i started in week 4 ...
and didnt have the time and the leisure (coz of private things)
to work on the map more intensively ...
and ended within the last 3 days!
That pressure to post a screenie wasnt helpful!
