Post -Overrated- CPMA Map
Hello there,

my Name is Ivan. "ProoF?!" N. I mostly map for War§ow a CPMA inspired game. So it was logical for me to make a CPMA-Map for this competition.

It will be a small, three room duel-map with this items:

1xRocketlauncher
1xRailGun
1xLightningGun
2xShotGun
1xGrenadelauncher
Ammoboxes for RL,SG,RG,LG,GL and MG

1xRed Armor
1xYellow Armor
1xGreen Armor
1xMega Health
1x50HP Bubble
2x25HP Bubbles
Some Shards and 5HP Bubbles

The map will be called Overrated and will follow a simlistic (cellshading?) design with focus on movement.

I'm setting up a portfolio with Wordpress right now so in about one week you can see some of my prevous works and also some sketches for this map.

See ya

Hey ProoF?!, could you send me your email (either reply or PM me)? Also, what gametype is this map going to focus on? Thanks.

Morning! :)

1st My email is i.navdaev@hotmail.de (dunno what you need it for, but ok).

2nd Don't get your question... I allready posted, that it would be a three-room duel-map, so it will be a duel map for CPMA physics.

Peace

I keep track of everyone's email in the event that there is an urgent competition update where I need to contact everyone directly, rather than through the forums. I don't plan on using them to be honest, but it can't hurt to be safe.

I didn't see that you had written duel map. Sorry about that. Thanks.

Got a problem.

Can't compile the map. Error Message is following: LoadPortals: couldn't read C:/Program Files/Quake III Arena/baseq3/maps/newproject.prt

Allready looked up the Error Message and found out that my map is leaked somewhere. But that's not possible! Even packed the whole map into a brushbox and it still says the same.
Only parts of the map which can be leaked are the rounded corners and edges in it.

So for the guys out there who work with roundet-thingies (curve-belevel mostly):
Is there some special thing i need to look afther when building a edge?

replace the shader not found with caulk.
patches need caulk hulling behind them.. like brushes the same size as the patch.. to fill in the gaps behind them.. and align with their corner vertexes.

if you can read the protal file you are skipping a step possibly in the compile process..
bsp meta first..
then vis
then light

if you skip tthe bsp meta part you wont have a prt file to compile visibility with..

well caulk is the hull texture for all faces not textured..

but generally yeah you gotta have some texture is there or you will see only hall of mirrors

Q3 doesn't work the same way as say UT. The maps are additive. That means you start with nothing (commonly called 'the void') and add things into it. UT starts with a solid, out of which shapes are subtracted. For Q3, this means you end up with leaks if something inside the map can find a hole. I think the problem is collision, if something fell into the void it would end up with infinite collision calculations.
By trying to compile a map with no textures, the compiler will not know what is solid and leak proof and what is not, as each texture is given a surface property.
As Skin says, build the map from the common/caulk texture, which is invisible but solid, then texture only the visible faces.

Ok thx did not know that.
I usualy work with NetRadiant and War§ow where it is competely wayne if you have textures or not as long as there is no obvious leak in the map it will compile the map.

But another Question:

Why is my radiant showing a "Shader not Found" for all common textures in the texture-browser?
Is this normal or did I messed something up???

Peace

open shaderlist.txt in the scripts folder

is common listed?

if so, then you're missing the editor images in the textures/common folder

you may also be missing some other newer common shaders.. afaik a dl link
